Change Isn't Always Bad...
As a group humans aren't so much about the change, we've been conditioned to believe that all change is bad and that the process is hard and arduous and time consuming and fraught with emotions. In reality it can be all those things, but it doesn't actually have to be. We can get from where we are now to where we'd like to be with much less stress if we just get honest and real about what we want.
Society at large has done a really good job of convincing people that they should be grateful for what they have, even if what they have isn't something they even want?! The idea that we actually can have all the good stuff we've longed for seems way "too good to be true".
I know I've felt this way about a million times. Every time I would make headway with more open ways of thinking my brain would give me the resistance that I'm sure we can all relate to. And I don't even think we have to be a profoundly negative person to experience that inner critic and not even realise it's there. Often we're so used to the inner critic that we don't even hear them talking, we mistake their voice for our voice.
At the start of the year I decided I wanted to shift my main focus from being a family photographer to branding photographer. Now it took me years to get to where I am now and the idea of moving towards a new area scared the crap out of me...but that's good, it means it's something I want, something that's right for me.
I sat and thought about how I would get to the position I want to be in for hours, spoke to my husband, friends and lots of other business owners about it but the noise in my head was so loud it took someone I barely know sending me a random message to pull me out of the self doubt head space I'd locked myself into.
Flash forward to now (just one week later) I have my first Group Branding Shoot Day booked for next month! I have a beautiful venue and a wonderful hair stylist booked and a make up artist to contact. We're going to spend the day capturing amazing images for these women to use in the social media content, on their websites and hopefully along the way the photos will make these women feel better about themselves as well.
What I've realised is that we really have no idea if people will like our ideas but if we keep them inside our heads we're not even giving ourselves a chance for those ideas to breath with life.
Now every time I have a moment of self doubt and believe me, I still do, that's part of the human condition, I focus on living in the moment and all the reasons this WILL work and wouldn't you know, before long, I can hear my own voice again...
